Post 3; skills table

SKILLS TABLE

For this task we were asked to produce a table which would outline the skills and creativity we have, under the different exam topics. We wrote a number of different headings in the columns, which were the following:
- Digital technology
- Research and Planning
- Post production
- Media text conventions

For each topic we needed to identify a specific skill that we needed for the production of our AS film. These were
- Cognitive skills
- Technical skills
- Interpersonal skills.

After we had produced this poster we now needed to produce a voice over video, which we would need to explain each point we added, and give reasons and examples to back up our main points.
Our group took it in turns to speak, I read through the first column (digital technology), Sade read through the second column (Research and planning), Zoe read the third column (post production), then Sade read out the last column (media text conventions).

our skills gained throughout the main task was relevant to everyday live in a way, i think i gained skills witch would be appropriate out in the workplace and general communication skills. Learning new skills makes it easier to operate equipment and interact with pupils, and i think my current level of skill was average, then developed even further.
SMART TARGETS
specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time based.

1) To become more familiar with the edit suites, and be confident and comfortable with different editing techniques. I will do this by researching and finding out about different edit suites, which will help me to use them when it comes to editing our film. We will also have to think about the amount of sound going on when filming, as in our opening sequence we had to turn it right down in order for our soundtrack to be heard over the top.

2) Ensure that when producing our film this year, we enable much time for it to be completed. (As last time it was done in last minute, which caused much stress). I will do this by completing any unfinished work at home for independent study, which will help get all work up top date and ready to start work the teacher sets in the following lesson. Interacting with other pupils in the class, to see where i can improve will also help to get my work up to the best possible standards, and working as a team to ensure everyone is up to date and has all their own work completed.

3) To be able to create a well put together short film, with a plot that becomes interesting and what audiences want to watch. To help me achieve this i will research around what audiences like, and what they dislike. I will also do some research into what genre of film's they like, by using box office statistics and audience reviews. I will also ask family members and friends which genre of films they like to help me get an idea of which age ranges like which specific genre's.

4) Organising the project sensibly so that all deadlines are met, and the course is finished on time. This will be done by completing independent study at home, and reading around and finding out anything i do not understand. By completing work at home enables more time for class work and helping us not get behind on any work. Finding out anything i do not understand enables me to extend my knowledge, and become more independent to find out things by myself.

5) Allowing myself to be more creative, by breaking away from the obvious media conventions. To achieve this target it needs to be something unusual and something that is not regular (original). I will research the different media conventions and gain idea's about how we can be different from everyone else, and create a film that an audience will like, and want to watch on.

post 2; creativity

In order to create a short film, it is essential that we are creative to achieve a film of the highest possible standards, so what does being creative actually mean?

THE BORING PEN JUMPED OVER THE AMAZING FLOWER..

The game of consequences was introduced to us by our teacher, in which we had to get into groups and each person write a adjective, a noun and a verb, which would be folded over so we could not see what each person had wrote. Once we had unfolded the paper our sentence read out "The boring pen jumped over the amazing flower". Our teacher then told us we had to produce the picture which would illustrate the sentence.
I think that my picture did not show very much creativity as it was quickly put together in a short amount of time. It was hard to produce something that did not make sense in which we would all need to think of how we were going to put together a confusing picture. The picture that i had created does not look perfect and as we had to produce it in such a short amount of time it was hard to quickly put things together, and we needed to be imaginative to help us create this picture.
I think that we have been creative in the sense that we thought and created a sentence and then actually produced the picture of it, which is creativity.

Our next task was for us to produce a short 1 minute video of a pen. All our teacher said to us was here is a pen, go and do something creative with it. We were all shocked at what we had to do, but in the end we decided to create the video with the pen moving around the school, with different pupils having access to it. We were also told that everything that needed editing, had to be edited in camera, which also made it harder to come up with an idea. I think that we was not creative enough in the sense that we only had 20 minutes to film and come up with an idea, and i feel that our storyline was very basic, and simple which could have been improved. However, i feel that we were creative coming up with different locations for the pen, and the different people that were involved with interacting with the pen.

Below is the video we created

INDEPENDENT STUDY..

For our in dependant study, we was asked to do something creative and post evidence of it on our blog. Everyone was confused by the idea, and did not have a clue what to do. After a week of thinking about what i could do, i decided to put together a small picture which would show nature.

I think i have been creative in the sense that i went outside gather leaves, sticks, grass and flowers in order to create an image of the outdoors (Garden). I decided to do this piece as i love the outdoors and thought it would be creative for me to create an image of a Garden, and use materials that can be found in the garden. I used a yellow daffodil as the sun, and leaves and sticks for the trees, and put it together to create an image of a Garden.
Definitions..
Creativity is being able to think logically, then put your thinking into practice by producing the item.
"Creativity is the ability to generate innovate and manifest them from thought into reality. It is the process from original thinking to producing "-definitions from wikipedia
-I agree with this post as creativity comes with being able to thing logically and then putting your thoughts into practice by producing the work.
"Creativity involves 2 processes, thinking then producing. It requires passion and commitment"-definitions by Linda Naiman
-i also agree with this statement in the sense that in order to be creative and achieve a good project you need to be committed or you will not succeed. For example: In our practical opening sequence for AS we had to be committed as if we were not the project would not have got finished. We had to put in a huge amount of independent study, which requires commitment.
"making something might be a creative act, it is reserved for those who are highly skilled and or original"-definitions by Pete's media blog
-I agree with this statement, however being original will effect the quality of your production work. If you were to create originality it would be hard, as there are certain rules and conventions to convey when producing.

There are certain debates surrounding creativity and originality. The tasks i have completed above were designed to have no structure or specific rules. This effected my creativity, as having no rules made it harder to think and come up with idea's. We had to use our imagination more which increased our creativity.

Post 1 Skills.

Skills

In our exam, we need to understand what skills we have got and what skills need to be developed, in order for us to do this we need to define the work skill, and apply our knowledge to the G345 exam.
skills an be defined in many ways.
1) A skill is the learned capacity, to carry our pre determined results often with the minimum outlay of time, energy or even both.

Cognitive skills are mental skills that are used in acquiring knowledge.
- Thought, experience and the sense.
Technical skills are used for using camera's and editing
Interpersonal skills are teamwork and working with other peers and members of the group.

there can be 2 types- general (for example time management and teamwork) or specific skills( used for a certain job/task). http://www.reference.com/browse/skill
2) Communication skills is the set of skills that enables a person to convey information so that it is received and understood.
3) The ability to understand messages and responses received from others. http://dictionary.bnet.com/definition/communication+skills.html

I think the term skill means you have an ability to apply and use your knowledge to complete certain tasks/ jobs and solve problems. I think producing my own definition of skill, will help me with my media production in the future as i will have the ability to apply my own skills i have, to the production work, and take into account the skills i should be using, and ones which I need to develop. Maintaining good skill work throughout my media production will enhance my knowledge of all aspects of media, and gain a better grade for the coursework.
